Specialist for Distributed AI at Fraunhofer IIS
As someone with a great affinity for modern technology and technology, I am fascinated by the complex issues that can be solved in non-technical areas, such as wildlife conservation, with the help of computers. What I love about the GAIA Initiative is that it combines both, current research and state-of-the-art technical advancement – in a challenging but at the same time extremely fascinating way.

In the past, I have been involved in different research groups dealing with topics ranging from astrophysics, random networks, epidemic spreading, hyperbolic geometry, to quantum field theory. Within the GAIA Initiative, I can now benefit from this broad expertise, be part of a fruitful interdisciplinary exchange and apply my knowledge to facilitate a fascinating project.

Manuel is an experienced researcher with a proven scientific record in the field of theoretical physics and computational algorithms. In 2020, he received his PhD in the field of Theoretical Physics from Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg. In his dissertation he worked on massively parallel simulations of complex interacting many-body system on non-standard geometries. In his two-year postdoc stay at as a research software engineering expert, he initiated and lead the development of the open-source computational geometry library “hypertiling”. In early 2023 Manuel joined the Fraunhofer IIS, where he is part of the “Center for signal processing with artificial intelligence” (DSAI). Due to his expertise in the field of computational algorithms, distributed computing, software engineering and machine learning, he is concerned with the distribution of AI algorithms on edge devices as part of the SyNaKI project.
